Your maintenance calories, measured

Every calorie app hands you a number from a formula. That formula lands within 10% for about four people in five, which leaves everybody else eating to a target that was never theirs. Trueburn works yours out from what you actually ate and what the scale actually did.

What it does differently

It measures, rather than assuming

Log for a fortnight and weigh in a few times, and Trueburn has everything it needs to work out your real maintenance: what you ate against what your weight did. Until it has that, it says so plainly and uses the formula as a starting guess rather than presenting it as fact.

It admits what a photo cannot tell you

Photograph a plate and the model is good at naming the food. It is not good at judging that there are 180 grams of rice rather than 260, because a photo has no scale reference. So the estimate arrives as a draft: the name comes from the model, the calories come from a nutrition database, and the portion is yours to correct. Correct it and the app learns how you serve that dish.

Every number is cited

Mifflin-St Jeor for resting rate, USDA FoodData Central for food, published figures for protein, fibre and training volume. Each one is a tap away inside the app, linking to the paper it came from. If a health app will not tell you where its numbers came from, that is worth knowing before you trust the numbers.

A coach that has read your logs

Not a chat box with a diet personality. It opens on what your week actually did, in your own figures, and answers questions about them. It refuses medical questions and says that it is refusing, rather than guessing at something it has no business guessing at.

What Trueburn will not do. It will not tell you tomorrow's weight, because daily scale movement is mostly water. It will not build a plan for anyone under 18. It will not set a target below a safe floor, or agree to a deadline that needs more than about 1% of bodyweight a week. And it will not claim a photo estimate is accurate, because it is not.

What it costs

The app is free, and the free tier is a real app rather than a demo: logging by photo, barcode or hand, the food database, recipes, training, trend, measurements, water and CSV export are all included. Trueburn Plus adds unlimited photo analyses, a second opinion from a more accurate model on crowded plates, the full coaching curriculum and Apple Health. Two weeks free, then the price shown on the purchase screen for your country.

Support

Something broken, or a question? Email forkcast.support@gmail.com and you'll get a reply from a person.

Why is a calorie estimate different from what I expected?

Trueburn labels every food as either Database (looked up against USDA reference data) or Estimated (the model's own guess). Drag the portion slider to correct it, and the app starts closer next time.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Settings, then Export my data (CSV), any time, no account needed.

How do I cancel?

Settings, then Apple Account, then Subscriptions, on your iPhone. Cancelling before a free trial ends means you are not charged.

Privacy

Trueburn has no account system. Your log lives on your device and in your own iCloud. Read the full privacy policy.
